  1. AIM & OBJECTIVES

    1.1. ‘STC’ is the abbreviation for ‘Singapore Tamil Community’. It’s a closed (private) FaceBook, WhatsApp and mailing groups.1.2. As an online Community, STC uses Social Media to bring the people together and keep them together to act for the benefit of the Singapore Tamil Community.1.3. STC works closely with existing organisations, businesses as well as individuals to achieve its objectives. In its pursuit to promote the Tamil Language, STC is willing to work with any like-minded organisation using the various resources available to it.1.4. Strictly for Tamil Speaking persons of any races living or working in Singapore; Singapore Citizens, PR and Expats.1.5. STC’s main function is to coordinate or facilitate any activities amongst registered Tamil Organisations, PA, RCs, CCs, IAECs, Temples, Churches, Mosques etc., in Singapore.1.6. STC shall strictly keep away from local Political issues.

    2. The Achievements of STC

    2.1. STC organised a roundtable meeting in 2011 with many leaders of the Tamil organisations and Hindu Temples on how to help promote Tamil language and Indian Culture amongst the Singapore Tamil Community.

    2.2 A team of about 20 members met Ms Indranee Rajah in 2011 to allow Urumi Players to be allowed into Permual Temple and play urumi music.

    2.3 STC organised two Dialogue sessions with Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Law (in 2011 and 2016) for the public to raise issues related to Tamil language and Tamil community in general.

    2.4 STC invited Urumi teams to participate in Indian Beat trial performance in preparation to be qualified for Guinness Record. More than 50 youths participated. It held in Chong Pang Community Centre in August 2012.

    2.5 STC met some organisations with his intellectuals to improve Tamil Culture and Language. For example:-

    2.5.1 MediaCorp to improve Tamil TV Programmes;

    2.5.2 IHC to use the Tamil Language in the building and need to rename Little India as ‘Kutty India’ in Tamil, and to add Tamil in their logo.

    2.6 HEB to add music in Thaipusam;

    2.7 Teachers union to ensure the Tamil students in secondary schools attend Tamil during their curriculum time instead of attending during their CCA times etc..

    2.8 STC had also sent letters to relevant authorities to have Tamil wordings in the signages of STPB tourist locations and Changi Airport. Changi Airport Terminals T2 & T4 already have added Tamil wordings with their signages.

    2.9 STC represented by two key persons to attend the incidents triggered by an accident by a bus driver which killed an Indian foreign worker on 8.12.2013.

    2.10 One of the STC latest achievements was adding Tamil wordings in DBS ATMs. DBS invited us to discuss after we had a sent letter to them. We understand that few other organisations were too invited to input Tamil words.

    2.11 STC helped the needy people referred by the subscribers.

    2.12 STC help needy students in exchange school textbooks;

    2.13 Referred needy families to Sinda, CDAC, HEB, some selected Temples for financial and groceries help.

    2.14 Also quickly formed ad-hoc teams to look after any suicidal tendency victims (especially single mothers) and refer them to SOS.

    2.15 STC being an online community partner with SINDA been providing volunteers in their programmes to uplift the Indian community.

    2.16 STC is planning to meet senior citizens more than 60 years old to interview about Singapore history as part of the Bicentennial Commemoration (2019). Sixteen of the STC volunteers attended PMO-Bicentennial Office workshop on how to interview eligible Singaporeans.

    2.17 STC will continue it’s journey to uplift and empower our Singapore Tamils/Indian Community.
